Perfect Painted Miniature Jersey Cow

So You Want a Mini Jersey

FYI Newbies, Wannabes Hopefuls, Dreamers and others interested in Mini Jersey cattle. Miniature Jerseys of quality breeding and conformation do not sell for the same price as a Cull cow or a Standard Jersey or any other average breed of beef or Dairy cattle. They are a very coveted animal and there for they come with a larger price tag. Period. So be prepared to pay more before you contact Long time Breeders wanting to purchase.  Thank you.

Know the Breed Traits

A good place to start is by reading the Breed Traits. 20+ yrs ago there was no Registry for the Small Jersey cow. Richard Gradwohl of the IMCBR contacted me to see if I would be willing to Write up a Breed trait/ Guide Lines for the breed and then he would add this breed to his growing list of “Registered” animals in his Organization. I wrote up what I thought was most important and submitted it and it was accepted and remains the same today. The IMCBR was the first to register small Jerseys. All based on Height measurements “Not purity”. Through disagreements of breeders the AMJA was formed a short time later. So that other crossbred animals could be added. “To increase numbers”. Much later the Heritage Jersey was formed as well as the MJHB. All started because different breeders had differences of opinions on as to what was most important to them. I just thought I would share a little bit more history on this breed to those interested. They have come along way in the last 20+ years. Hopefully will continue to go forward.

Key Factors

The most important things I look for in the ideal miniature jersey are: Size, straight top line, good legs, feet, Nice shaped head, temperament, udder on a cow, teat placement, check lineage to see whats in the back ground, to name a few.

Shipping your Mini Jersey

In my experience it has always been up to the buyer to arrange shipping/hauling of animals. Not sure when Newbies/Wannabes got the idea that because they want to purchase (at a reasonable rate) an animal, that the seller was responsible for making arrangements to ship the animal. Also at a Reasonable rate… Of course… Ask your seller for recommendations on shippers, if they are reputable breeders, they will give you people they have used and can recommend.
